Chocolate Covered Strawberry Eton Mess
Looking for an easy entertaining summer dessert that can completely be made ahead of time? Boom… this Chocolate Covered Strawberry Eton Mess is your answer.
First things first. Before a few days ago, I had no clue what the heck an Eton Mess was. Didn’t even know it existed. All I knew was, I was to make a dessert with meringue in it. And strawberries. And whipped cream.
Then Google happened. Boom. Eton Mess it is. Who knew?
All I know is… I’m totally hooked on this Chocolate Covered Strawberry Eton Mess. It’s a perfect make-ahead easy entertaining dessert for all those summer parties I’ll be throwing in the next few months.
So here’s the deal. Eton Mess is a traditional English dessert that originated at England’s Eton College. I’m not one to normally jump for joy at English food… but they actually got something right with this sweet bundle of summer joy.
Usually, you mix strawberries together with broken meringues and whipped cream, creating one big mess of a dessert. Created at Eton College. A mess of a dessert. Eton Mess. Get it? Good. History lesson over.
You know what I love about this dessert? …besides the whole amazing flavors and textures, of course.
You can totally make every component of this Chocolate Covered Strawberry Eton Mess ahead of time. Yup, this creative meringue dessert is the epitome of summer easy entertaining. Just assemble and serve. #winning
And sure, you could totally just mix everything up together and slop it in a bowl… that would be the “traditional” thing to do. Boring.
Your summer get togethers are way too refined for that. The presentation has to be just as legit as the flavors in the bowl. That’s why I prefer the layered look.
A fluffy bed of homemade whipped cream. Freshly chopped strawberries. A sprinkle of shaved dark chocolate. Broken-up homemade chocolate chip meringues. And to make it epic… a chocolate covered strawberry garnish.
Dessert just got a major upgrade.
